To the strains of a boisterous “kampai”, members of the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce in Japan welcomed the new year at a lively shinnenkai (New Year’s Party) on 28 January. The event, at Brasserie Va-tout in Roppongi, was held in collaboration with the Holland Alumni Network Japan.

In December 2015, Akzo Nobel K.K. once again joined the NCCJ as a Regular Gold Member. Akzo Nobel is a global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals. The company is headquartered in Amsterdam and employs some 47,000 people in 80 countries. Their brand portfolio includes such well known brands as Dulux and Sikkens.  

In Japan, Akzo Nobel is headed up by Mr. Takayuki Koike, who commenced his career in the financial sector and later joined Akzo Nobel in the Netherlands in 1996 after graduating from Lancaster University in the U.K. with a Masters Degree in Finance. Currently Mr. Koike serves as President for Akzo Nobel K.K. and Kayaku Akzo Corporation.

The Deshima Business Awards are now presented in alternate years in the Netherlands and in Japan, respectively by Dutch & Japanese Trade Federation (DUJAT) and NCCJ. During the annual DUJAT December Dinner on Friday 11 December 2015, Mr Hans de Boer, Chairman of VNO-NCW, also a member of the DUJAT’s Honorary Committee presented the Deshima Netherlands Award 2015. The Award in the category ‘new investment’ was won by Omori Europe B.V. and in the category ‘well established’ was won by OMRON Europe
