The NCCJ’s Deshima Awards ceremony at the Hotel Okura on Oct. 29 saw four Dutch companies recognized for their achievements in the Japanese market.
Insurance firm Aegon Sony Life Insurance, mobility company Bugaboo, training provider ITpreneurs Japan Asia Pacific, and sustainable energy specialist BBE Biogas were all named winners of the prestigious awards.
The biannual awards recognize Dutch companies in Japan that have shown impressive achievements in developing their business in Japan in the in the recent past. They are awarded in two categories — large companies and small-and-midsize firms. This year, in addition to the regular Awards, a new award, the Encouragement Prize, was also presented, to recognize companies that, though they have not yet “succeeded,” have been judged by the Deshima Awards committee to have great potential in the Japanese market. The award winners were selected by a joint Dutch and Japanese jury, chaired by Danny Risberg, EBC Chairman and CEO of Phillips Japan. This year 11 Dutch companies made it to the final round.
The awards were presented at the Trade Dinner of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs on the occasion of the State Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of the Netherlands. The ceremony venue was the Hotel Okura in Tokyo.
Mr. Risberg announced the awards, which were presented by former Vice Minister of International Trade and Industry Shinji Furukawa, Netherlands Market Council Chairman Takao Kusakari, JETRO Executive Vice President Soichi Yoshimura, and Simon Smits, Director-General for Foreign Economic Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Established in 2000 by the NCCJ and with support from the Embassy of the Netherlands, the Deshima Awards aim to promote greater awareness of opportunities in the Japanese market — both for imports of goods and technology into Japan and for investment here by Dutch companies.
