Update from Oranda-jima; visit to Yamadamachi

Update from Oranda-jima; visit to Yamadamachi

Please find here a visiting report to Yamada-machi that was partly destroyed by the tsunami. This covers the project that will build a Child Care and Play Centre with Elderly Bath Facility within 3 months (see the design here); it promotes that elderly who lost their home and children now living in emergency facilities assist each other under the initial guidance of UNICEF.

After initial management by a dedicated ‘Oranda-jima NPO’ now being established by the PA International Foundation with the support of several major Dutch companies and foundations, the entire building will be given to the local authorities. Among the Board Members of the future Oranda-jima NPO are Wakako Hironaka (former Minister of Environment), Leon Halders (DSM Japan K.K.), Jan Remie (Rabobank Netherland, Tokyo Branch), Wolter A. Veenhoven (Foundation ‘t Trekpaert/Hastex International K.K.), Martin van der Linden (VAN DER ARCHITECTS) and Rio Praaning Prawira Adiningrat (PA Asia Tokyo/PA International Foundation). The letter to NCCJ members can be read here.
