Established in 2000, the 2014 Deshima Business Awards will be granted by the NCCJ with support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in recognition of Dutch companies demonstrating impressive achievements in successful business development in the Japanese market. Different from past years, when the NCCJ organized the ceremony, this year on the occasion of the State Visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen of the Netherlands to Japan, the NCCJ is invited by the Minister of Economic Affairs of the Kingdom Of The Netherlands, H.E. MR. HENK KAMP to hold the ceremony on October 29 in the evening in attendance of the participants of this mission and other invitees.

The Deshima Business Awards aim to recognise those companies that are leading the way in Japan, but also to provide exposure for companies to develop their relations in this market. In 2006, NCCJ joined with DUJAT in awarding this prestigious prize. The Deshima Business Awards are now presented in alternate years in the Netherlands and in Japan, respectively by DUJAT and NCCJ.
The Deshima Committee 2014 has decided to create the “Encouragement” prize. This prize is defined as a prize for a company which has not proven its success in Japan yet but for which the jury thinks there is great future potential.
The judging panel, consisting of representatives from both the Japanese business community and the Dutch business community in Japan, has been carefully selected to provide a wealth of professional perspectives. We are pleased to announce the following panel for 2014:
- Mr. Danny Risberg, CEO of Philips Electronics Japan, Ltd and Chairman of the European Business Council (EBC)
- Mr. Satoshi Miyamoto, President of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)
- Mr. Shinji Fukukawa, Senior Adviser of Global Industrial and Social Progress Research Institute (GISPRI)
- Mr. Takao Kusakari, Chairman of Netherlands Market Counsil (NMC)
