The Euro Crisis and European Political Economy - France, Germany and Central Europe

Although facing Euro-pessimism after the Cold War in the 1990s, Europe accomplished deepening and enlargement at beginning of the new century, enabling the acceptance of new Central and Eastern European member states that had undergone system change and market liberalization. By the beginning of the 21st century, Europe's economic growth surpassed that of the United States, and Europe also got closer to Asia.
However, the Lehman Shock affected Europe in 2008, and led to the Euro crisis in 2010-2011. Against the backdrop of the influx of immigrants and ongoing globalization, Europe's growth faces difficulties such as stagnating wages, rising commodity prices and the financial problems of the so-called PIIGS countries.
In this context, many questions arise: What place will Europe take in the world? What will European political economy aim for? While cooperating with the rapidly developing China, India and Southeast Asia, what kind of reforms will Europe carry out? During this International Conference, three renowned professors, Robert Boyer, Ivan T. Berend and Wolf D. Gruner will analyze the politics and economies of France, Germany and Central Europe while also discussing some ways out of the current issues.
